Kurosawa Kiyoshi double Cloud and Charisma on Eureka Blu-ray in January
Eureka Entertainment are to release Cloud / Charisma: Two films by Kurosawa Kiyoshi – a pair of haunting masterpieces from one of Japan’s most distinctive auteurs. Available for the first time on UK home video, this limited two-disc Blu-ray edition is released as part of the acclaimed Masters of Cinema series and will be available from 26 January 2026. Featuring Cloud (exclusive to this release only) and strictly limited to 2,000 copies, the set comes packaged in a collectible O-card slipcase and includes a specially curated collector’s booklet.
A revered auteur noted for his deliberate pacing and haunting, methodical style, Kurosawa Kiyoshi is the celebrated filmmaker behind a string of modern classics, including Cure, Pulse (Kairo, 2001), Tõkyõ Sonata (2008) and Creepy (2016). Collected here are two more great works by this master of psychological cinema: Charisma (Karisuma, 1999) and Cloud (Kuraudo, 2024).
Charisma follows Goro Yabuike (Yakusho Kõji, Cure), an overworked police officer who leaves his job behind after he fails to resolve a hostage situation, resulting in the deaths of both a high-profile politician and his captor. Reeling from this incident, he seeks solitude in a mountain forest, where he finds himself at the centre of a conflict over an enigmatic tree that the locals have named “Charisma.” In Cloud, factory worker Ryosuke Yoshii (Suda Masaki, Wilderness) quits his job to pursue a new career as an unscrupulous online reseller, becoming increasingly ruthless as he turns a profit from desperate customers. Eventually, though, those customers have had enough of being ripped off by Yoshii – and go looking for him to exact their revenge.
Made 25 years apart, Charisma and Cloud illustrate the singular vision of one of Japan’s most talented working filmmakers. Following previous releases of Tõkyõ Sonata, Journey to the Shore (Kishibe no tabi, 2016), Cure and Creepy, the Masters of Cinema series presents two more of Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s films on Blu-ray, both making their debuts on UK home video.
Cloud / Charisma will be released on Limited Edition Blu-ray by Eureka Entertainment on 26 January 2026 at the RRP of £29.99. It’s currently available to pre-ordering from the Eureka Store for £24.99.
