The Man Who Fell to Earth in cinemas and on 4K UHD & Blu-ray from StudioCanal in November
To mark the 50th anniversary of the UK release of director Nicolas Roeg’s (Don’t Look Now) seminal science fiction odyssey, The Man Who Fell to Earth (1976), StudioCanal has announced a 4K rerelease of the cult classic.
The film, which was fully restored in 2015, will be released in cinemas nationwide on 13 November 2026. A special 50th Anniversary Collector’s Edition will follow on 16 November. Released via the new StudioCanal Classics label, the 5-disc collection features the film on 4K UHD and Blu-ray, brand-new artwork by Aleksander Walijewski, a 2CD soundtrack, a 100-page booklet featuring a brand-new interview with Candy Clark, four posters and four art cards (designed by Nick Neocleous). The Collector’s Edition also includes the exclusive premiere of a 40 min documentary: Bowie & Roeg: Aliens in America. Featuring new interviews with those that knew him best at that time, we celebrate Bowie’s most iconic leading role and take a look at how the cosmic forces aligned to make a truly unique masterpiece. Archive featuring Bowie illuminates his relationship with director Nic Roeg and what playing Thomas Newton meant to him. Also features Candy Clark, Geoff MacCormack, Ava Cherry, Graeme Clifford, archive interviews with Nic Roeg and many more, and rarely seen behind-the-scenes images.
Featuring a startling and era defining lead performance from David Bowie (The Prestige, Labyrinth) in his debut feature role and based on the cult novel by Walter Tevis, The Man Who Fell to Earth endures as, not only a bitingly caustic indictment of the modern world but, also, a poignant commentary on the loneliness of the outsider.
Thomas Jerome Newton (David Bowie) is a humanoid alien who comes to Earth from a distant planet on a mission to take water back to his home planet in the midst of a catastrophic drought. Using the advanced technology of his home planet to patent many inventions on Earth, Newton acquires incredible wealth as the head of a technology-based conglomerate (aided by leading patent attorney Oliver Farnsworth (Buck Henry, The Graduate) that he intends to use to finance the construction of a space vehicle to ship water back to his planet.
Newton embarks on a relationship with hotel maid Mary-Lou (Candy Clark, American Graffiti) and makes progress with the construction of his vehicle but soon finds his true identify at risk via his roguish colleague and confidant Dr. Nathan Bryce (Rip Torn, Men in Black) who threatens not only his relationship with Mary-Lou, but his freedom and chances of ever returning home.
