Two classics of 1970s Italian cinema on UHD and Blu-ray from Indicator in October

This October, Indicator is presenting world-premiere 4K UHD releases of two classics of 1970s Italian cinema – unflinching true-crime biopic Lucky Luciano and scathing critique of religious hypocrisy, The Sinful Nuns of Saint Valentine. Details follow.

LUCKY LUCIANO (Italy / France / USA 1973)

Limited Edition UHD | Limited Edition Blu-ray | 19 October 2026 | £24.99 (UHD), £17.99 (Blu-ray)

Gian Maria Volonté (A Fistful of Dollars), Rod Steiger (The Harder They Fall), and Edmond O’Brien (Between Midnight and Dawn) lead the cast of Lucky Luciano, a masterful blend of mob biopic and political thriller from acclaimed Italian director Francesco Rosi (The Mattei Affair, Christ Stopped at Eboli).

When ruthless mafia kingpin Charles ‘Lucky’ Luciano (Volonté) is released early from a US prison and deported to Naples, dogged FBI agent Charles Siragusa (playing himself) conspires with informant Giannini (O’Brien) to topple Luciano’s transatlantic criminal empire.

Co-written by legendary screenwriter Tonino Guerra (Blowup, Amarcord), Lucky Luciano boasts stunning photography from Pasqualino De Santis (Death in Venice) and a memorable score by Rosi’s regular composer, Piero Piccioni (Swept Away).

Italian genre stalwart Sergio Grieco (Mad Dog Killer) directs Françoise Prévost (Paris Belongs to Us), Jenny Tamburi (The Suspicious Death of a Minor), and Paolo Malco (The New York Ripper) in the ‘nunsploitation’ classic The Sinful Nuns of Saint Valentine.

In sixteenth-century Spain, Lucita (Tamburi) is forced into a convent by her family to separate her from her lover, Estaban (Malco). Infiltrating the convent, Esteban uncovers the depraved regime of the abbess (Prévost), placing his beloved Lucita in the hands of the Inquisitor (Corrado Gaipa, The Godfather).

Freely adapted from the writings of Victor Hugo, The Sinful Nuns of Saint Valentine blends eroticism and horror with a scathing critique of religious hypocrisy.
